Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to determine the factors that affect tardiness among cheerleaders of West Visayas State University, College of PESCAR, enrolled in academic year 2012-2013. The subjects of the study were the 30 purposively selected members of cheerleading team (BPE students of college of PESCAR) taken as an entire group and classified according to sex and year level. The statistical tools utilized to treat the gathered data were the mean, rank, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis set at .05 level of significance. Findings of the study showed that the top factors that affect tardiness among cheerleaders when taken as an entire group and classified as to sex and year level were "mingling with friends after class," "studying their lessons for the next day," and "stocked with other responsibilities at home." Moreover, "suffering from physical pain" was another factor considered by 3rd year respondents; whereas 4th year respondents also considered "studying their lessons for the next day" and "confident that they can learn the routines in a single practice." The result of the Mann-Whitney U test revealed that there was no significant difference in the factors that affect tardiness among cheerleaders according to sex, but there was a significant difference in the factors that affect tardiness among cheerleaders when classified according to year level.
