Abstract
According to the Maranaw legend, this dance derives its name from the story of Princess Gandingan, who, while walking through the forest, had to skip nimbly from one place to another so that her feet would not touch the trees and rocks that had fallen after fairies caused the earth to shake (Gaerlan, 1999). ... each community or cluster of settlements evolved its own customs, traditions, and folk ways independently of other far-flung communities.
