Abstract
This paper perceives a fishing ritual as a social, repetitive and symbolic activity articulating the fishermen's experience of a world and perception of life, and embodies a cultural scheme which energizes their lifeways. The study examines the metaphors of an annual fishcorral ritual performed during the fishcorral season in Binalayan, Maripipi Island, Leyte. It investigates key terms used in Binalayan daily and ritual discourse as these underlie a variety of experiences in the Binalayan social life.
