Abstract

This descriptive research determined the perceived difficulties in the promotion of Philippine Folk Dance among the movement educators of the First Congressional District of Iloilo, academic year 2011-2012. The respondents were the 40 randomly selected secondary P.E. teachers taken as an entire group and classified as to degree and tenure. A researcher-made questionnaire-checklist was used to gather data. Mean was used for descriptive analysis and t-test was employed for inferential analysis. Results revealed that the top three perceived difficulties encountered by the P.E. teachers, when taken as an entire group and classified as to degree and tenure, were: Philippine Folk Dance is taught only in the first and second year levels, inadequate time in reviewing past lessons in folk dance, and inability of students to cope with folk dance topics as there are other areas in MAPEH subject. The least three perceived difficulties encountered by the P.E. teachers were: inadequacy of students in terms of knowledge and skills, insufficient time for warm-up and conditioning activities prior to lessons, and insufficient time allotted to Philippine Folk Dance, being one of the components in the MAPEH subject for first year and second year high school students. No significant differences were found in the perceived difficulties in the promotion of Philippine Folk Dance among the movement educators when grouped according to degree and tenure in terms of time allotment, desired competencies and teaching resources.
