Abstract

This quantitative study was conducted to determine the motivational strategies of dance teachers as perceived by dance major students using a researcher-made questionnaire-checklist. The validated and pilot-tested instrument was distributed to the 57 dance major students of Sta. Barbara National High School and Pavia National High School (Special Program for the Arts) for school year 2014-2015. The statistical tools employed were mean, rank and standard deviation for descriptive analysis and t-test for inferential analysis. As an entire group, the result of this study showed that the most highly used motivational strategies of dance teachers as perceived by the respondents were: "Gives advice to improve skills," "Encourage to improve skills," and "Gives helpful feedback during practical tests." When classified according to sex, the motivational strategies of dance teachers as perceived by males were: "Encourages to practice harder to enhance skills," "Announces grades after practical tests," and "Gives another chance after failing" with an equal mean. On the other hand, the females' perceived motivational strategies were: "Gives advice to improve skills," "Encourage to practice harder," "Show that s/he cares," and "Shares his/her ideas about dance and his/her passion towards dancing." The results revealed that the perceived motivational strategy of the respondents has a significant difference.
