Abstract

A collection of essays on the culture and community surrounding the Philippine fiesta as well as other celebrations found in the country. The book describes the features of fiesta that have remained the same to the present day. It describes how it was celebrated in the pre-Spanish period and how it is celebrated at present including the chronological preparations for the celebration and its structure. It also talks about the institutional and personal Filipino values in relation to celebrating fiestas. Other chapters talk about Philipine folk literature, containing annotated translations of Tagalog poetry, reviews of selected poems.
