This study is basically a meaning-based translation into Tagalog of Iluminado Lucente's two (2) Lineyte-Samarnon didactic plays. The plays are didactic for they were written for the purpose of correcting the manners of the people during the author's time. The two chosen plays are: Abugho/Panibugho (1949) and Ang Duha Nga Sportmen/Ang Dalawang Sportmen (1926).The plays were written fifty years ago and are primarily commentaries which represent the author's longing for a just and humane society, and his attempts to transform his fellow human beings using the powerful medium of language. In these plays, Lucente used words, phrases, expressions, and idioms from the old Waray which are hardly used today or understood even by the present-day Waray speakers. This writer's task in this study is to make these play comprehensible to present-day readers through a Tagalog translation.
