They are financially underprivileged youths who embody our future. They don’t sniff rugby. They’re disciplined. They’re talented. They perform with a power that many say is virtually supernatural. They are street kids whose lives echo the sad song of the country but who have composed their own refrain — in movement. They dance. The Quezon City Performing Arts Development Foundation (QCPAS) and the Manila Dance Center (MDC) are two dance groups composed of talented underprivileged children. Mayor Sonny Belmonte of Quezon City and Mayor Lito Atienza of Manila give their valuable support to these organizations by providing fees, venues, allowances, snacks and necessary funding for their dance projects. All this would not be successful without the efforts of the artists behind the project. The children’s artistic director, teacher and choreographer, Luther Perez, is one contributor who has brought about the metamorphic wonder. His vision from the very beginning was to expose the youngsters to the various techniques in dance so that they may realize their own dreams in classical ballet, modern dance, folk dance, jazz or hip hop.
